Since 1995, Halifax County Business Horizons has supported economic development by providing private sector resources to support the retention, recruitment and expansion of quality companies in Halifax County. Halifax Horizons' primary mission is to increase job opportunities, economic growth, and new capital investment. In the past year, Halifax Horizons has leveraged critical resources to support the location of over 700 new jobs and $65 million in new investment in Halifax County.

Halifax County Business Horizons is a non-profit corporation made up of corporate and individual members that want to improve the quality of life of Halifax County. In the past five years, Halifax County Business Horizons has raised over $600,000 to support economic development projects that are paying tremendous dividends for our communities:
- Forest Products Resource Assessment - Study of available forest product resources in a 25, 50 and 100 mile radius to support location of wood-related projects in the Enfield Area of Halifax County.
- Reser's Fine Foods - Site studies and permitting assistance to support multi-phase expansion by Reser's Fine Foods.
- PCB Peizotronics - $45,000 to support the relocation of 30 families from Buffalo, NY to Halifax County. 500 new jobs – $5 million investment
- Littleton Industrial Building - $25,000 to leverage $225,000 for the purchase of the former Action Sportswear Building in Littleton and over $776,000 in grant funds for upfit to accommodate a new manufacturing operation
- Airboss of America - $15,000 to the Town of Scotland Neck for legal and environmental costs to support the location of Airboss in the former Fulflex building. 86 new jobs - $2.5 million investment
- Job Fairs, Receptions & Announcements – Halifax County Business Horizons contributions have helped sponsor a number of important events such as job fairs, receptions and announcements for new and expanding companies.

"WORKING TOGETHER WORKS" AWARD
Each year, Halifax County Business Horizons recognizes an individual from the community that who exemplifies leadership and support for economic development in Halifax County. The "Working Together Works" award is presented each year at the Halifax Horizons Annual Meeting and signifies the importance of leadership in the Roanoke Valley.
The 4th Annual "Working Together Works" award was presented to Frank Avent III. Frank is a strong community leader and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission (former chairman) and the Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Halifax Community College and Treasurer for Halifax County Business Horizons. Most importantly, Frank is a strong advocate for economic development and dedicated to "Working Together" every day in his service to the Roanoke Valley.
Previous recipients of the "Working Together Works" award include: Pete Roy of Pelican Packaging; Scott Aman of New Dixie Oil Corporation; and Ron Baker.
"MAKING A DIFFERENCE" AWARD
At their 8th Annual Meeting, the Board of Directors of Halifax County Business Horizons also presented a special recognition, the "Making A Difference" Award to Dr. Eli Bracy, Superintendent of Weldon City Schools, and Dr. Ervin Griffin, President of Halifax Community College, for their vision and leadership in establishing the Roanoke Valley Early College. The Roanoke Valley Early College provides intensive learning programs from 7th and 8th grade to graduation that allow students to graduate with a high school diploma AND an associates degree or two years of college transfer credits.
