Halifax County is known for its reliable and affordable water, sewer, electric and natural gas services.
Water/Wastewater The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District provides water treatment, water distribution, sanitary wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment services for all of Roanoke Rapids, Gaston and several areas outside the district boundaries. Approximately 25,000 people are served throughout the Roanoke Valley. The water supply for the District is from the Roanoke Rapids Lake with back-up capabilities from the Roanoke River. The water treatment plant has a design capacity of 12 million gallons per day and a pumping capacity of 10 million gallons per day. The District has 5.00 million gallons of storage capacity. The District's wastewater treatment plant has a design capacity of 8.34 million gallons per day. The system has five pumping stations.
Halifax County Public Utilities operates a county-wide water system with over 500 miles of water lines that serve 7,522 residential water accounts and 373 commercial water accounts. Halifax County’s water system also serves the Towns of Littleton, Scotland Neck, and Halifax as well as customers in Warren County. Halifax County Public Utilities also has 373 sewer accounts.
The Towns of Weldon, Scotland Neck, Littleton, Halifax, Hobgood, and Enfield each operate their own water and wastewater treatment systems that serve their municipalities.
Natural Gas Natural Gas service is provided by Piedmont Natural Gas in abundant supplies for both firm and interruptible customers in certain areas of Halifax County.
Electrical Service No matter where you choose to locate your business, reliable electrical service is available through major providers including Dominion NC Power, Progress Energy, Halifax Electric Membership Corporation, and Roanoke Electric Membership Corporation. The Towns of Enfield and Scotland Neck provide electrical service within their boundaries.
