Utilities, Transportation & Telecommunications

 

Water/Wastewater

Halifax County NC owns and operates its own water and wastewater facilities. The County is also served by the Town of Weldon and the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District.

Electricity

No matter where you choose to locate or live, reliable electrical service is available through Dominion NC Power, Progress Energy, Halifax Electric Membership Corporation, Roanoke Electric Membership Corporation, the Town of Enfield and the Town of Scotland Neck. Supplies of electricity are abundant for the future. Incentive rates are available to both new and expanding business and industry under certain conditions.

Natural Gas

Natural Gas service is provided by Piedmont Natural Gas in abundant supplies for both firm and interruptible customers in certain areas of Halifax County.

Airline Services

Halifax County NC is within a 90-minute drive of three international airports:  Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Richmond and Norfolk International Airports in Virginia. The Halifax Northampton Regional Airport provides general aviation services covering the Roanoke Valley. This new facility provides a 5,500 foot runway, modern terminal facilities, hangar facilities, and many other services.  

Highways

Halifax County NC is served by Interstate 95, the nation’s major north-south thoroughfare. In addition, three major highways traverse Halifax County (US Highways 158, 301, and 258). Ports

Halifax County NC is easily accessible to the Ports of Richmond and Norfolk in Virginia and the Ports of Morehead City and Wilmington in North Carolina.

Rail

Rail service is provided by CSX Transportation and available to a number of industrial sites and properties in Halifax County. Additionally, there are three Amtrak stations within an hour’s drive of Roanoke Rapids providing passenger rail service to over 500 destinations in 46 states on its 22,000 mile system.

Telecommunications

Fiber optic cable and DSL service has been deployed extensively throughout Halifax County.
