For the third year in a row, Site Selection Magazine has ranked the Roanoke Rapids Micropolitan Area as one of the Top 100 Micropolitans in the United States. The Roanoke Rapids Micropolitan Area, encompassing Halifax and Northampton Counties, received a ranking of #41 based on the number of new or expanding economic development projects in 2018.
"This national ranking shows that Halifax County continues to be a competitive location for businesses to locate and grow," commented Vernon J. Bryant, Chairman of the Halifax County Board of Commissioners. “We are extremely proud to be recognized by Site Selection as a top location for the third year in a row."
Site Selection Magazine is a trade publication for site selection consultants, corporate decision-makers, and economic developers. The annual ranking is based on new or expanded facilities in the past 12 months. A micropolitan area is defined as a community serving as a regional trade center that has a population of more than 10,000 people but less than 50,000. There are 551 micropolitan areas in the United States.
"The Top 100 ranking is a testament to the companies that have located or expanded in Halifax County and to our efforts in touting the advantages of smaller markets for business investment," added Cathy Scott, Executive Director of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission.
