Grants Awarded for Economic Development Projects

At their June meeting, the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority approved funding for two economic development projects in Halifax County:

  • A $750,000 grant to Halifax County to support major renovations to an existing industrial building in the Becker Industrial Park near Weldon to support JBB Packaging LLC, a plastic packaging manufacturer. JBB Packaging will create 50 jobs at the facility, while investing $11.9 million in the project.  The funding will come from CDBG-Building Reuse Grant Program administered by the NC Department of Commerce, Rural Economic Development

  • An $80,000 grant to the Town of Scotland Neck to support the renovation of a 217,800 square foot building occupied by Our Community Hospital/Bryan Health & Rehabilitation Center. This 80-bed skilled nursing facility provides 24-hour nursing care.  The company will create 8 jobs and attract $302,150 in private investment

The Building Reuse Grant Program provides grants to local governments to renovate vacant buildings, renovate and/or expand buildings occupied by existing North Carolina companies, and renovate, expand or construct health care facilities that will lead to the creation of new jobs in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties and in rural Census tracts of Tier 3 counties.
