Halifax Community College Hosts Apprenticeship Summit

The Halifax County Economic Development Commission (HCEDC) and Northampton County Economic Development recently co-sponsored the 2024 Apprenticeship Summit hosted by Halifax Community College (HCC). The event, held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, brought together business and industry leaders from across the region to explore opportunities and benefits of North Carolina’s Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Keynote speakers John Loyack and Chris Harrington of the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges. These experts emphasized that apprenticeships are more than just training programs, but investments in developing a skilled workforce that drives business success and community growth. Bobby Edmonds of Smurfit WestRock provided a compelling testimonial on behalf of Tyler Williams for HCC’s apprenticeship program, showcasing it’s transformative impact.

Collaboration on the Apprenticeship Summit is part of HCEDC’s ongoing partnership with HCC to support the retention and growth of local industries by ensuring access to a qualified workforce.
