The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District provides water treatment, water distribution, sanitary wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment services for all of Roanoke Rapids, Gaston and several areas outside the district boundaries. Approximately 25,000 people are served throughout the Roanoke Valley. The water supply for the District is from the Roanoke Rapids Lake with back-up capabilities from the Roanoke River. The water treatment plant has a design capacity of 12 million gallons per day and a pumping capacity of 10 million gallons per day. The District has 5.00 million gallons of storage capacity. The District’s wastewater treatment plant has a design capacity of 8.34 million gallons per day. The system has five pumping stations.
Halifax County Public Utilities operates a county-wide water system with over 500 miles of water lines that serve 7,522 residential water accounts and 373 commercial water accounts. Halifax County’s water system also serves the Towns of Littleton, Scotland Neck, and Halifax as well as customers in Warren County. Halifax County Public Utilities also has 373 sewer accounts.
The Towns of Weldon, Scotland Neck, Littleton, Halifax, Hobgood, and Enfield each operate their own water and wastewater treatment systems that serve their municipalities.
No matter where you choose to locate your business, reliable electrical service is available through major providers including Dominion Energy North Carolina, Progress Energy, Halifax Electric Membership Corporation, and Roanoke Electric Membership Corporation. The Towns of Enfield and Scotland Neck provide electrical service within their boundaries.
Assistance is available from each of the electric service providers to help your company analyze your power needs and coordinate engineering and design of electrical service facilities. They will also help you plan efficient energy use and load management practices to assure competitive operating costs. Incentive rates are available to both new and expanding business and industry under certain conditions.
Natural Gas service is provided by Piedmont Natural Gas in abundant supplies for both firm and interruptible service in commercial and industrial areas of Halifax County. Additionally, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a 550-mile long natural gas pipeline that will traverse three states, is expected to be in service in early 2022. This new interstate pipeline will provide new access to an additional supply of clean, reliable and competitively priced natural gas.
CenturyLink is the Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) in the Halifax County Area. CenturyLink provides national telephone and internet services including fiber connections. Spectrum, is a national internet and cable provider and has an extensive regional fiber network which extends to the Halifax-Roanoke Rapids Area.
MCNC, a not-for-profit organization, has a statewide open access 144 strand dark fiber cable that routes through the northern section of Halifax County along the US Highway 158 corridor. The fiber is almost entirely underground. At most of Halifax County’s industrial properties, redundancy and diversity can be achieved through one or multiple providers.
