Commemorative License Plate Available

Halifax County holds a special place in American history as the Birthplace of American Independence. On April 12, 1776, the signing of the Halifax Resolves marked the first official call for independence by any of the thirteen colonies—earning North Carolina its proud title as the “First in Freedom” state.

To honor the 250th anniversary of this pivotal event, the Halifax County Semi-Quincentennial Commission, in partnership with Halifax Horizons, is offering a commemorative license plate. Proceeds from the sale of license plates will support educational programs and special events leading up to the 250th anniversary on April 12, 2026.
