OPEN HOUSE HIGHLIGHTS AIRPORT ROLE IN DRIVING ECONOMIC GROWTH
The Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport (IXA) Authority hosted an Open House event providing an opportunity for the community to witness the impressive facilities and gain insight into the Airport’s role in driving economic growth and development in the area. With over 65 people in attendance, the general public was able to see the modern general aviation facilities and hear firsthand the strategic vision of the Airport Authority.
The Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport opened in May 2009 and represents a unique regional partnership involving Halifax and Northampton Counties and the City of Roanoke Rapids to promote growth and economic development opportunities for the area. The Airport consists of a 5,500-foot lighted runway, parallel taxiway, modern terminal facilities, T-Hangars, 24-hour fuel services, and corporate hangar facilities.
As a general aviation airport, the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport plays a vital role in supporting various aviation needs within the region, serving as a hub for corporate aircraft and private pilots. Additionally, HNRA supports agricultural, medical, and law enforcement operations and acts as a gateway to small and remote communities, enhancing connectivity and accessibility. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that three out of every four liftoffs and landings at U.S. airports are attributed to general aviation aircraft, with a significant portion occurring at general aviation airports.
During strategic planning discussions last year, the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport Authority identified the need to raise awareness of its facilities among the general population and throughout the region. With its location just minutes to I-95 and close proximity to Lake Gaston, the potential for leveraging its strategic location to attract more businesses, visitors, and investment is high. By capitalizing on these advantages, the airport aims to bolster economic growth and become a preferred destination for general aviation activities.
With a vision to become the premier general aviation airport in the Greater Roanoke Valley and by enhancing its facilities, services, and customer experience, the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport aims to attract a diverse range of aviation-related activities. This strategic focus will not only benefit the airport but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the surrounding communities.
