The Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport (IXA) Authority recently completed a Strategic Plan to guide development of the Airport over the next five years. The plan was developed with assistance from key stakeholders, county and municipal officials, and staff and will serve as a blueprint for future activities and investments. The plan reinforces the vision for the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport and its overall economic impact for businesses, economic development, and tourism. Two key transformational strategies were identified to help move the airport forward in the future: 1) leverage the Airport’s proximity to Interstate 95 and Lake Gaston; and 2) become the leading general aviation airport in the Greater Roanoke Valley.
According to the 2021 State of Aviation report by the NC Division of Aviation, the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport generates $17.6 million in economic output and supports 145 indirect jobs. The Airport supports 20,900 operations annually and 29 based aircraft. Updated impact figures will be released in early 2023.
Ralph Johnson, Chairman of the Authority, says the implementation actions outlined in the Strategic Plan will help increase airport operations as well as the number of based aircraft over the next five years. “We identified several initiatives that can deliver important benefits to our flying customers and to the community,” commented Johnson.
Lee Padrick and Bruce Naegelen of the NC Department of Commerce’s Main Street & Rural Planning Center, along with the NCDOT’s Division of Aviation, facilitated the strategic planning process. Read the full Strategic Plan here.
