Recent data indicates that Halifax County’s economy is continuing to perform well in 2023. The decrease in unemployment from 5.9% in January 2022 to 5.5% in 2023 indicates that more people are finding jobs and contributing to the local economy.
Gross retail sales for January of $68.5 million, the highest monthly sales ever recorded for Halifax County, suggests that consumer spending is strong. This increase of 7.5% over January 2022 is a positive sign for the county’s retail sector.
Building permit values reported for February 2023 are also a positive indicator of economic growth. An 81% increase over the same period last year implies businesses and individuals are investing in the area and construction activity is strong.
Overall, these economic indicators suggest that Halifax County’s economy is continuing to show expansion in 2023.
